Rules & Guidelines for Young Artist Competition
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you read and understand these Competition Rules & Guidelines:
ELIGIBILITY:
Residency requirement: Applicants must be legal residents of Idaho, or students attending high school, college or university in the state of Idaho.
Junior Division: Students aged 18 or younger as of September 1st, 2020.
Senior Division: Students aged 19 or older (but not older than 24) as of September 1st, 2020.
CHOOSING REPERTOIRE:
Junior Division: Solo piece with accompaniment should be prepared. For the application, memorization is encouraged but not required. The piece can be up to 10 min in duration.
Senior Division:
Only one movement of a standard concerto 15-20 minutes long (or equivalent selections not exceeding twenty (20) minutes in total duration) should be prepared. If necessary, to meet the minimum time requirement, instrumentalists may add an additional movement from the same piece; vocalists may add an additional aria or song. Instrumentalists and vocalists will be considered in the same pool. The repertoire must feature the soloist with standard symphony orchestra accompaniment. The selection(s) must be published and available through reliable commercial sources. In the event that orchestral parts are not available for your selection, the ISCS may contact you for an alternate piece. The repertoire for the application must remain the same through subsequent rounds. For the application, memorization is encouraged but not required. Cuts to the accompaniment are encouraged and do not need prior approval. In the event that Orchestral parts are not available for your selections, the ISCS may contact you for an alternate piece. COMPETITION:

- Judges will hear/watch up to ten (10) minutes of the selection. If your piece is longer than this, cuts to the solo part must be approved. Cuts to accompaniment are encouraged but do not need prior approval. Contestants must provide scanned copy of the piano accompaniment with the solo part included. (Photocopies are acceptable) .

PRIZES FOR WINNERS: Prizes for the Senior Division winner is $1,000 and includes the opportunity to perform live with the Idaho State-Civic Symphony on October 23rd, 2020, which will require up to four (4) days residency in Pocatello. Junior Division winner will receive $500 and the opportunity to perform at the Pre-Concert on October 23rd, 2020.
Winners will be selected based on performance in the submitted Audition video, and the results will be announced shortly after the competition by a panel of professional judges. There will be up to one winner selected from each division. The Symphony reserves the right to have no winner in one or the other (or both) categories. A recent headshot and updated biography will be required of the winners for press and advertising purposes.
APPLICATION FEE: An application fee of $50 is due by May 2nd with the application form and audition materials. The fee covers competition expenses and is non-refundable. Please pay online when you submit your application. You will receive a confirmation email of your payment.
